Mobility will increasingly adapt to the individual needs of travelers in the coming years, for example through new on-demand mobility offers and autonomous vehicles in private and public transport. These new offers are based on real-time data about traffic, the needs of travelers, and the availability of services.
The secure and sovereign delivery of data and the protected use of these data in distributed systems will be key success factors for the mobility of tomorrow. The Mobility Data Space intends to establish the necessary prerequisites.
Fraunhofer ISST is assisting the establishment of the Mobility Data Space from a technical perspective and developing the required components for the sovereign exchange of data between various partners in the ecosystem. We are expanding the concepts and components of the International Data Spaces initiative for this purpose, adapting them to the special needs of the mobility sector. Developing a hardware-related framework to ensure data sovereignty is the ISST project team’s core task.
This project initiates the development of the Mobility Data Space, with the intent of establishing it as a mobility data ecosystem encompassing the Mobility Data Marketplace (MDM) of the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt) and additional, municipal traffic data platforms. New municipal traffic data and nationwide mobility data are accessed and made available for secure, sovereign processing on the platforms. To this end, the platforms are expanded with data space concepts. The municipal platforms are also linked to the MDM so that regional data can be delivered and used at the national level.
