DuITeasy

Lifelong assistance platform based on an open federated data and services ecosystem and smart metering systems

Europe's ageing population requires new approaches to lifelong assistance. The "DuITeasy" project is developing an interoperable ecosystem for innovative assistance services based on existing data sources with a focus on data protection and interoperability, with the aim of creating broad access to data for innovative business models and competitiveness.

A decentralized data architecture should ensure data protection and enable cross-industry interoperability. The potential for smart living environments is recognized through integrated services for energy efficiency, security and health. "DuITeasy" integrates existing digital offerings into an interoperable ecosystem and develops assistance services ranging from activity recognition to emergency detection. Gaia-X principles are applied to ensure data sovereignty and scalability. An application layer enables the integration of applications and interfaces for everyday assistance.

The challenge

The DuITeasy project aims to develop an innovative assistance data space for smart living based on Gaia-X and Data Spaces. It includes the linking of all relevant individual systems, the semantic description of the data space according to Gaia-X specifications and the use of AI processes for lifelong assistance. Data protection and user participation are also key aspects, as is the development of an ontology for specific use cases.

Our contribution

The project starts with a comprehensive requirements analysis in which Fraunhofer ISST defines the requirements for the data space technology and analyzes existing systems and interfaces of the project partners. A system architecture is then developed that enables cross-organizational data transactions. For this purpose, data space connectors and decentralized services are created and federated catalogues based on Gaia-X Federation Services are created. Fraunhofer ISST is integrating these components with the project partners. Fraunhofer ISST also supports the development of planned use cases and contributes economic expertise for data-driven business models. The institute is involved in project management, meetings and workshops and promotes cooperation with the lead project as well as the dissemination of results at trade fairs, conferences and in scientific publications.

Results

The "DuITeasy" project will create an open, interoperable ecosystem based on the ForeSightNEXT reference architecture to enable innovative, adaptive assistance services for a self-determined life. It will use distributed data sources with a high level of data protection and will be implemented using two use cases. Fraunhofer ISST is contributing its expertise in data spaces and ecosystems to create a decentralized data architecture that promotes cross-industry interoperability, data protection compliance and innovation. The aim is an intelligent, modular, customizable assistance system that integrates AI-supported emergency detection and home emergency call.
