The challenge
The COVID-19 pandemic clearly shows us the vulnerability of our highly interconnected and complex structures in society and economy. Especially when additional disasters such as floods or heat waves occur simultaneously. Above all, it becomes clear that almost no area of life is free of cascading effects. This also applies to independent processes, e.g. from health care to global value chains and education. However, these chains are often disparate due to cross-sectoral organisational and data structures and the interaction of people and technology. The increasing complexity and the associated unpredictable effects, as well as the increasingly frequent extreme crises and disasters, require a new assessment and increase in resilience and cross-community cooperation.
Our performance
Fraunhofer ISST supports the creation of a demonstrator for a scalable resilience data space. To do this, it is first necessary to work out use cases for the data room. In doing so, special attention is paid to how the interaction of the individual users of the data room (from the IT perspective) runs. The resilience data room is based on the reference architecture of the International Data Spaces (IDS) and ensures a regulated and secure data exchange. The implementation of the IDS components is carried out by the Fraunhofer ISST.
The results
In the "HeRaKlion" project, a demonstrator for a resilience data space is being developed. This is intended to show how data for preparing for and coping with crises can be made more accessible and usable. In addition, the project will open up new use cases for the International Data Spaces.
